Realistic Pencil Impression

realistic pencil drawing that inspires

This should be my last portrait display for the year. Yes, I still had time out of my busy schedule to design pencil portraits for my clients. It's nice "multitasking" reasonably, you know. I believe God that the best awaits us in 2016.

Subject: Mr. Ola
Medium: graphite/charcoal pencils on paper
Size: 16x20 inches

I want to use this opportunity to appreciate all that gave me the opportunity to express my creativity by way of commissions. God bless you all.

Maintaining Balance: Life and Work

motivational story on family, life and work

Father was a hardworking man who delivered bread as a living to support his wife and three children. He spent all his evenings after work attending classes, hoping to improve himself so that he could one day find a better paying job. Except for Sundays, Father hardly ate a meal together with his family. He worked and studied very hard because he wanted to provide his family with the best money could buy.

Fashola calls for review of rent payment system in Nigeria

Minister for Works, Housing and Power, Mr. Babatunde Fashola has called for a review of the way Nigerians pay two years house rent whenever they seek to secure accommodation. He stated this at a recent press conference in Abuja.
“The way we collect rent is something that must change. If we are collecting two years rent in advance from a salary that is going to be earned in arrears monthly, there’s an accounting mismatch. This is something many of us have experienced, you pay two years rent in advance money you haven’t earned.
Something is distorted somewhere in our accounting model. We must all resolve, property owners alike, that maybe if we changed the way we collected rent alone many houses that are unoccupied, will be occupied. I am inclined to think that if we just change the payment system for housing we will accommodate a significant number of people,” said Fashola.

Beware of this Mouse Trap

A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package. “What food might this contain?” the mouse wondered. He was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap.

Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning: “There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!”

The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, “Mr. Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it.”

Woman gives birth to a baby girl after 17 years of barrenness

A certain woman was married for about 17 years without an issue. Beaten, battered and perplexed by her marital ordeal, she decided to seek divine intervention.

In the course of her search, somebody advised her to attend Shiloh, an annual event organised by the Living Faith Church. At the program she caught a word that inspired her faith.

To put this to work, she began calling things that be not as if they were. She called the unborn child by name, "Baby Flourish, it's time to take your bath" and would start bathing an imaginary baby, one she had not yet seen.

There is nothing in the world you cannot be

There is nothing in the world you cannot be if you believe. We were meant to fly, not crawl through life sulking and begging as if that's all there is.

Most of our limitations in life are self-inflicted. So it's time you shake them off! Dump those limiting thoughts in the dumpster. Say your prayers in morning, believe the good Lord has given you the things you asked. Move out in faith, make life happen.

I was once an indomie seller - Victor Abba

Victor Abba(right) with Kenneth Okonkwo in a movie
"It's not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters”, a sage once said. You can choose to look for who to blame for your current predicament or do something about walking out of it. In an exclusive chat with yours sincerely, Victor Abba, one of Nollywood’s rising stars, shared his experience on overcoming unemployment and other setbacks on the road to carving a niche for himself in Nigeria's movie industry.

Abba, who hails from Enugu State, got admission in 2005 to study Computer Science at the prestigious University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). However, his academic sojourn suffered a serious setback two years after as he lost his dad. This, he said, made him to drop out of school being the first born of his family, with four siblings to cater for.

The pain of losing a bread winner of the family can be shattering. Many of you know what I’m talking about, especially when the children of the deceased are left to their fate with no one to take care of them. It will only take the grace of God to pull through this harrowing period.

with Majid Michel
According to Victor, he hunted for jobs in Lagos for a long time all to no avail. Determined to make it, he decided to travel to Europe and that did not materialize too. He then took up low-end jobs to sustain himself and family, taught at a primary school and worked with a company that distributed Indomie noodles.“It was really an experience for me”, he said. “I learnt how to be patient.”
How his major breakthrough in the movies came
Abba said his major breakthrough in life came when he got an opportunity to feature in advert for a company that produced mattresses. He stated that after impressing during the advert production, the producer offered him another role, this time in a local movie for a religious body.

all smiles
Shortly after that he met the CEO of Presstora Productions Limited, Precious Okafor, who gave him his first major role in a movie titled, “Sorrowful Kingdom”, playing alongside stars like Ngozi Ezonu, Chika Ike, Yul Edochie and others.

“That movie was all I needed”, he said, pointing to the role the epic film played in bringing his talents to the fore. And since then, there is no looking back. He has continued to feature in other Nollywood movies. Victor Abba today has a burgeoning career and at the same time is running a program at the National Open University.

Seeking to discover the secret of his turnaround and "never quit" attitude, I asked him what he thought had kept him going even through the hard times, to which he modestly responded, "God's grace and prayer".

In his parting shot, Abba advised youths in the country to look inward and discover their potentials and by so doing create meaningful source of livelihood for themselves and others. "It's true that government don't have enough jobs for millions of youths graduating from our universities every year, but there must be something you can do that no other person can; just try and that way you can create jobs too," he advised.

I began with this quote and will end with it, "It's not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters”. If you have a dream, muster the courage to pursue it. There is nothing that can stop one who is determined to make it against all odds. Stories such as this should spur you into action. Take baby steps, excel in smalls things and before you know it big opportunities will come calling.

Benevolence has no side effect

One day a man saw an old lady, stranded on the side of the road, but even in the dim light of day, he could see she needed help. So he pulled up in front of her Mercedes and got out. His Pontiac was still sputtering when he approached her.

Killing time is suicide!

Each of us on earth is given 24 hours daily by God to make something out of our lives. None is given more than the other. And the difference between achievers and non-achievers is how they spend their time. You can convert your time to anything, a meaningful relationship, a booming business, strong prayer life, a university degree, the list is endless.

FG to start paying unemployed graduates N5,000 in 2016

President Muhammadu Buhari
This comes as a reprieve to millions of unemployed graduates in the country as the current administration finally decides to honour its promise to pay them N5,000 on a monthly basis. Though this is a stopgap approach in tackling the challenge of youth unemployment, I believe it will go a long way in addressing this all important issue. Here is the report in details:
